Faecalibacterium abundance in the gut of patients with plasma cell disorders undergoing autologous hematopoietic stem cell transplant is associated with progression free survival

The primary goal of this study was to investigate the relationship between the composition of the GM during transplant and clinical outcomes of patients with PCN. Evaluating the impact of the GM on adverse events during transplant and the effect of treatment antibiotics on the GM were secondary goals.Fecal samples were collected prospectively in patients with PCN who were undergoing autologous HSCT to determine if baseline microbiota patterns or changes in composition early after transplant affected treatment outcomes. Samples were obtained at pre (baseline), mid (at 1 week from baseline), and end (at engraftment) transplant and subjected to 16S rDNA sequencing.
