资源简介:
This dataset provides an integrated hydrographic and biogeochemical characterisation of the Beagle Channel–Sloggett Canyon–Yaganes Marine Protected Area (MPA) system in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean during the austral spring of 2022. It consists of a multi-sheet dataset combining in situ observations and derived variables that describe the physical structure, nutrient dynamics, and carbon cycling across a coupled coastal–canyon–basin continuum influenced by the Antarctic Circumpolar Current (ACC). The dataset includes two complementary data tables: (1) hydrographic and primary biogeochemical variables, and (2) derived and processed variables including stoichiometric ratios, isotopic signatures, and diagnostic parameters. Measured variables include temperature, salinity, dissolved oxygen, apparent oxygen utilisation (AOU), dissolved inorganic nutrients (nitrate, phosphate, silicate), chlorophyll-a, particulate organic carbon (POC), total nitrogen (TN), and stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N). Derived variables include molar ratios (C:N, N:P, Si:N), excess silicate (Si*), and other indicators of nutrient limitation and organic matter sources. Data were collected using CTD profiling (SeaBird SBE 19plus) and discrete water sampling (Niskin bottles) along a transect covering the Beagle Channel, the upper and lower Sloggett Canyon, and adjacent deep basin waters. Laboratory analyses were conducted using standard oceanographic protocols (autoanalyzer for nutrients, elemental analysis for POC/TN, IRMS for isotopes). The dataset is designed to investigate the role of submarine canyon dynamics in regulating nutrient redistribution, organic matter transformation, and carbon export in subantarctic systems. It enables the exploration of water mass structure, stoichiometric variability, and biogeochemical gradients associated with physical forcing and topographic control. This dataset is suitable for applications in marine biogeochemistry, ecosystem modelling, carbon cycle studies, and climate change research, and provides a high-quality baseline for future time-series and comparative analyses in the Yaganes MPA and surrounding regions.
