While previous studies on forest productivity have predominantly emphasized climatic drivers, the regulatory role of soil microbial communities remains underexplored. To address this gap, we synthesized 237 paired observations from 39 peer-reviewed studies across China, comparing natural forests and plantations in productivity (GPP, NPP), dominant soil microbial genera, and abiotic environmental factors.
