This dataset compiles information on the names, coordinates, quantities, types, and years of protest sites designated for public meetings and demonstrations in Istanbul. The data includes locations updated and published annually by the Istanbul Governor's Office. Data for the years 2007–2013 (excluding 2012, which is unavailable) were retrieved from online newspapers, architecture websites, and internet news platforms, serving as secondary sources. However, these sources cite primary sources within their content, ensuring the reliability of the information.

For the period 2014–2023, the data were directly obtained from the Istanbul Governor's Office website, making these records primary sources. While individual data points may not hold significant meaning alone, their combination and visualization offer critical insights into the spatial and functional transformation of protest sites over time.

The geographical coordinates of the designated sites were verified and calculated numerically by the creator using online mapping tools such as Yandex Maps, Google Maps, HGM Atlas, and the Istanbul City Map. This verification ensured the spatial accuracy of the dataset, contributing to its comprehensiveness and analytical utility.
