Responsible Suspension and the Preservation of the Subject: Toward a Self-Regulating Framework of Dynamic Agency

Abstract This paper develops a systematic philosophical framework centered on the preservation of the subject under conditions of uncertainty, existential pressure, and excessive commitment. In contrast to approaches that prioritize productivity, truth, or social structures, the present account argues that the primary task of practical reason is the sustainable preservation of agency. The framework integrates the concepts of Responsible Suspension, Subjective Seepage, Dynamic Mask Theory, Reflexive Suspension, Dynamic Preservation, Erosion Calibration, Periodic Integration, and the Principle of Sufficiency. Human beings are understood not as static entities but as self-regulating agents continuously exposed to processes of subjective erosion. Accordingly, practical rationality requires the regulation of commitments, interpretive frameworks, and identity structures through ongoing feedback mechanisms. The paper proposes a dynamic model in which self-awareness, erosion calibration, adaptive representation, and periodic narrative integration cooperate to preserve the integrity of the subject. Rather than eliminating change, agency is maintained through the intelligent management of change.
