资源简介:
The purpose of this study was to look at the difference in the composition and the species richness of plants between the grasslands and the woodlands across York University campus. The materials needed to perform this experiment were: -Data sheet. -A quadrat that was made of measuring tape (30 meters). -Plant identification book. -A camera (used phone camera). -Google maps (to apply the grid on the sites and divide them) -Google drive (to share the data) Two groups, each with two scientists were sent out to three different sites every day. The group’s members were assigned randomly and the sites for each group were assigned randomly by using Excel. The priority of the sites were random as well. Each group had to collect data from three quadrats for each site. The sites were divided into 100 quadrats. Each site was 2,500 meters squared (50 m by 50 m), and each quadrat was 25 meters squared (5 m by 5 m). The quadrats were picked up randomly by Excel. The data involved the species richness and plants composition for both habitats. Each branch of plant that come from the soil was counted as a plant. The only exception was counting the grass, it was almost impossible to count all the grass, so method used to count them was by picking a small portion of the quadrat and count the grass in it and multiply that by the total area of the quadrat. The plants that were touching the quadrats were included in the count. In the woodland, the trees that were dead (dry and no leaves) were not counted in the data. Pictuers were taken to the sites as reference. Note: the sites maps and the grid are posted on Google Drive: https://drive.google.com/folderview?id=0Bw8qTKONoFrHenB0R19WLTZlaDQ&usp=sharing
