Parthenium hysterophorus L. is a notorious weed, which significantly reduce yield and quality of crops and causes several problems to human health. Thus most of the researchers focused to control this weed, but in the present study an attempt was made to understand the potential medicinal, economic value, and survival nature of Parthenium through deep transcriptome analysis of P. hysterophorus.Genes expression related to biosynthetic pathways of various metabolites of therapeutic importanceand these findings suggest towards the use of this plant for isolation of phytocemicals. Expression analysis of heavy metal transporters such as ferrous ion transport protein B, zinc transporter, manganese transporting ATPasePDR2 in roots was also found with its heavy metal transport activity. This investigation provides new insights for functional studies of P. hysterophorus genes involved in biosynthesis of therapeutically important secondary metabolites, bioremediation of heavy metals and possible use as raw material for rubber industry.
