Aquaculture: Sicyonia Fertilization

This project conducted at the Bodega Marine Laboratory and at UC Davis is currently interested in the various aspects of gamete activation and sperm-egg interaction in the shrimp, Sicyonia ingentis. We have discovered, mainly through various microscopy techniques, the events leading up to successful fertilization. Recently we have examined the biochemical and physiological characteristics associated with sperm-egg interaction with emphasis on sperm-egg recognition, binding and fusion.
