NOR-XWIND is an open field-measurement dataset from instrumented road tests in Norway (October 2020–October 2024) designed to support research on the near-road wind environment and vehicle-driver response in strong crosswinds, with particular emphasis on repeated bridge crossings; it also includes controlled driving manoeuvres performed on flat asphalt at an airport to characterise baseline vehicle dynamics. Data were collected using a Volkswagen Crafter test vehicle equipped primarily with a Racelogic VBOX 3i RTK (100 Hz) with dual GNSS and IMU, and - depending on configuration - analogue inputs for steering and wind (Gill WindMaster Pro ultrasonic anemometer), plus optional high-rate surface-pressure measurements using Scanivalve MPS4264 pressure scanner(s) with 28- or 112-tap patch layouts and occasional supplementary sensors. The deposit is organised by campaign day (day_YYMMDD) and data source (VBOX compact flash/serial, pressure, external anemometer), and is accompanied by an authoritative documentation file (nor_xwind_documentation.pdf: “Description of Test Vehicle, Instrumentation, Configurations & Data Formatting”, v1.0, last updated 04.02.2026) defining vehicle properties, sensor layouts, standardised configuration identifiers, channel units/calibrations, file formats, and known limitations/uncertainties. The work was carried out at NTNU (Department of Structural Engineering) and financed by Statens Vegvesen (SVV/NPRA); third-party manuals are not redistributed and are instead referenced via manufacturer download pages.
