Genomic analyses revealed that Escherichia coli O8:H8 strains that were isolated from patients in two independent diarrhoea outbreaks and were negative for any known virulence determinants in the routine microbiological test are originated from a common clonal ancestor and carry a new variant of heat-labile enterotoxin LT2.
