Holm oak (Quercus ilex) is the dominant tree species in the Mediterranean forest with great ecological and economic value. Holm oak genome has not yet been sequenced, which causes an important limitation in the identification of gene sequences in response to abiotic and biotic stresses. Recently, a de novo transcriptome assembly of Q. ilex has been published (Guerrero-Sanchez et al. 2017). Now, the genetic information has been improved by using Two sequencing platforms (Illumina and Ion Torrent) reads for a new and better transcriptome assembly.Understanding the molecular mechanics of gene expression in Holm oak, we could tackle the drought problem, improve the production of acorns and select interesting varieties for human nutrition.
