Adapters were trimmed from the FASTQ files using atropos.
Trimmed sequences were analysed for isomiRs using bcbio pipelines: sequence quality was assessed using FastQC, then sequences were aligned to hg19 using STAR, and finally isomiRs were identified and counted using seqCluster.
We excluded sequences that could not be unambiguously mapped to a single mature miRNA sequence.
