Barriers and motivators to pediatrics contact lens fitting

SourceThe dataset comprises responses from 148 licensed eye-care practitioners across 38 optometry and ophthalmology clinics in Kenya. It originates from a structured, validated questionnaire capturing practitioner demographics, clinical experience, practice setting, prescribing behavior, and perceptions regarding pediatric contact-lens use for myopia management. Quantitative variables include years in practice, qualification level, clinic type and minimum patient age for contact-lens fitting; categorical Likert-scale responses record attitudes, barriers and enablers to pediatric lens prescribing. Additional supporting data from clinical records provide refractive status and optical product-dispensing information. Data cleaning and coding occurred in Excel; descriptive and inferential analyses were conducted in SPSS v25 and regularized regression with bootstrapping in R v4.4.2. These data provide a comprehensive view of practitioner-, institution- and system-level determinants of pediatric contact-lens uptake in Kenya’s eye-care ecosystem.Ethics and ConsentThe study protocol was approved by the Institutional Ethics Review Committee of Masinde Muliro University of Science and Technology (approval MMUST/IERC/029/2021) and the Kenyan National Commission for Science, Technology and Innovation (permit NACOSTI/P/21/14780). Written informed consent (and/or assent) was obtained from all participants prior to participation.
