Gene database of Escherichia coli ATCC 11775

<i>Escherichia coli</i> is a rod-shaped, Gram-negative bacterium that could subsist on a variety of substrates. A commensal in the human gastrointestinal tract, some strains of the bacterium are also opportunistic pathogens. But, most importantly, <i>E. coli</i> is a well-studied microorganism that have found uses in many areas of biotechnology. This work reports the gene database of <i>E. coli</i> ATCC 11775. Using the annotated genome downloaded from GenBank, this work uses an in-house MATLAB parsing software to read, extract and build a gene database of the bacterium comprising gene identifier, gene function, and gene sequence of all genes in the genome of the bacterium. The gene database should find use in a variety of genome editing and molecular cloning workflows seeking to uncover additional mysteries of this biotechnology workhorse.
