Seasonal Concentration of Housing Completions in South Korea, 2005–2025: Regional Patterns and Reproducibility Data

Overview This dataset presents a reproducible analysis of seasonal concentration in housing completions across South Korea from 2005 to 2025, using official housing construction completion statistics published by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport (MOLIT). Methods The study examines annual and monthly housing completion counts over 21 years. December and fourth-quarter completion shares are compared with calendar-day-adjusted reference shares. The analysis includes regional comparisons, statistical significance tests, trend assessment, autocorrelation-robust inference, block bootstrap sensitivity analysis, and leave-one-year-out robustness checks. Key Findings Across the 21-year observation period, the average December completion share exceeded its calendar-day-adjusted reference by approximately 2.84 percentage points. The December share exceeded the calendar-day reference in 20 of 21 years. Excluding 2025, all 20 years from 2005 to 2024 exhibited a positive December excess. Regional patterns varied, indicating that the national seasonal effect should not be assumed to apply uniformly across all regions. Scope and Limitations The data concern housing completions as defined by the official statistics, not exclusively apartment completions. The results establish descriptive seasonal patterns and do not demonstrate that administrative deadlines, construction practices, economic conditions, or government policies caused the observed concentration. Official statistics may be revised after initial publication.
