The study focused on finding a luciferase that is putatively involved in Pyrosoma atlanticum bioluminescence. In one of the transcriptomes (P3), a gene we named PyroLuc was found that is highly similar to RLuc and indeed produces light when mixed with the appropriate luciferin (coelenterazine).
