A Dataset and Boundary Register of Academics Killed in Türkiye-Related Contexts, 1922–2024: Political, Institutional, and Professional Violence Cases

This Version 1.0 dataset and boundary register documents academics and academic-origin public figures killed in Türkiye-related contexts between 1922 and 2024. The package contains a structured Main_Dataset with 26 person-case records, including 25 main analytical records and one special-category case involving a Türkiye-based academic killed abroad. It also includes one precursor case and 11 reviewed exclusions or boundary cases. The data package includes an Excel workbook and CSV exports. The workbook contains Main_Dataset, Precursor_Case, Excluded_Cases, Source_Matrix, Codebook_RDJ, Controlled_Vocabulary, Dataset_Summary, Search_Strategy_Log, and README_RDJ. The CSV package provides non-proprietary exports of the same sheets. The dataset records identity fields, academic titles, institutional affiliations, disciplines, event years and dates, locations, methods of killing, perpetrator types, event categories, role connection, legal-status information, source reliability, and inclusion or exclusion decisions. It is intended for reuse in research on political violence, academic freedom, campus violence, professional health-care violence, public intellectuals, and the historical sociology of higher education in Türkiye. The dataset is based only on publicly accessible historical, institutional, legal, and press sources. It does not include private correspondence, restricted legal files, police records, or non-public personal data. The data package was prepared with FAIR principles in mind through structured fields, a documented codebook, controlled vocabulary, source-reliability indicators, and CSV exports.
