Baseline situation of soil fertility management in cotton base farming systems in Western cotton production zone in Burkina Faso

This dataset includes information on household characteristics such as the age and education level of the householder, household size, labor availability, professional background of the householder, and land tenure. It also covers general characteristics of households, main crops cultivated, crop yields, soil degradation status, farmers’ perceptions of soil degradation, manure production, manure application practices and rates, soil reclamation methods, use of mineral fertilizers, as well as the constraints and benefits associated with soil restoration practices. The data were collected from farmers in nine villages in the provinces of Tuy and Mouhoun, within the cotton-based farming systems of western Burkina Faso, in March 2021. The dataset has been developed in the framework of the EU-H2020 project (GA 862848)- EWA-BELT Linking East and West African farming systems experience into a BELT of sustainable intensification.
