VPRS 14322 Register of Inward Correspondence, 'A' Series

This series is one of a number maintained in the Department of Crown Lands and Survey, very possibly by the Department's Chief Clerk. Matters dealt with include correspondence relating to advances applied for by selectors, particularly those involved in closer settlement schemes, correspondence relating to bush fire and flood relief schemes and correspondence from Department employees.Registrations consisted of the registered number (a sequential number with an A prefix), the dates of the letter and of the entry, the name and address of the correspondent, a summary of the subject of the letter and how it was dealt with. This last entry was most usually the number of the file to which the piece of correspondence was attached or a reference to a District Land Office. There may be within a registration, notations of the numbers of other pieces of correspondence received on the same subject denoted by a letter and a number.
