This dataset consists of a data-assimilative ocean simulation of the Gulf of Mexico for the year 2009, generated using the Regional Ocean Modeling System (ROMS) coupled with an ensemble data assimilation (EnDA) framework. The simulation is part of a multi-model effort to understand and predict the dynamics of the Loop Current (LC) system and its associated eddies. The ROMS EnDA system assimilates a combination of satellite and in situ observations, including along-track sea surface height (SSH), sea surface temperature (SST), and subsurface measurements from moorings and other observational platforms. The EnDA approach updates the model state through ensemble-based statistical estimation, improving the representation of both surface and subsurface ocean conditions. The dataset provides three-dimensional, time-evolving fields of key ocean variables, including temperature, salinity, currents, and sea surface height, at high spatial and temporal resolution. It captures the evolution of the Loop Current system, including periods of extension, eddy shedding, and reattachment, making it suitable for studies of ocean circulation dynamics, predictability, and data assimilation performance. This dataset is part of a broader multi-model ensemble that includes simulations from MITgcm, HYCOM, and NEMO, and is used for model intercomparison, predictability assessment, and observing system evaluation (e.g., OSSE and OSE studies). The data are provided in standard, self-describing formats (e.g., netCDF) with accompanying metadata to support analysis, visualization, and reuse by the scientific community.
