The human skin microbiome in ichthyosis vulgaris

The aim of this study was to investigate the difference in skin microbiome (on the lower leg) between ichthyosis vulgaris (IV) patients and healthy controls. IV patients had homo- or heterozygous filaggrin (FLG) null alleles (loss-of-function mutation), and the additional existence of atopic dermatitis (AD) was diagnosed. Multiplex 454 pyrosequencing of V3 and V4 hyper-variable regions of cutaneous bacterial 16S rRNA was used to define skin microbial communities.
