The regulatory mechanisms during biofilm aging were determined using RNA-seq of C. albicans biofilms from three time points. The role of oxygen was investigated by comparing normoxic and hypoxic grown biofilms. Since nutrient uptake is important during biofilm maturation, the transcriptome of a stp2? strain lacking proper amino acid uptake was compared to the wild-type parent strain. Overall design: Biofilms of C. albicans wild type and stp2? mutant were cultivated under normoxia and hypoxia in RPMI medium. Samples were after 8 h , 24 h, and 48 h.
