The information contained in this data set refers to the campaign CANZEC1170_2019, March 2019. It is the representation of the spatial distribution of the study area of the same. The areas comprising the data provided include the Santiago-Valle Gran Rey Marina SAC in La Gomera and the Teno-Rasca Marina SAC in Tenerife. It is a set of two polygonal entities, representing the two areas of study worked. Each object is associated with a series of alphanumeric variables such as the name of the campaign, the date, the region and georeferencing, among others, according to the GIS protocol of the Marine Strategies project (EsMarEs). The geographical information collected is stored in a spatial database. This set of geographic information has no previous historical series. It is the first campaign, of benthic habitats, aimed at quantifying the importance of the presence of rocky bottom habitats that make up reefs, after the declaration of Special Areas of Conservation (SACs) in the Canary Islands in 2009. This work is included in Chapter 10, Activity 3, of the assignment ‘Technical Scientific Advice for the Protection of the Marine Environment: Evaluation and Monitoring of Marine Strategies, Monitoring of Protected Marine Areas of State Competence (2018-2024)’ from MITECO to IEO. Marine Strategies are the marine environmental planning instrument created under Directive 2008/56/EC (as amended by Directive 2017/845) establishing a framework for Community action in the field of marine environmental policy (Marine Strategy Framework Directive), and have as their main objective the achievement of the Good Environmental Status (GES) of our seas. The 11 Good Environmental Status descriptors form the basis for the description and determination of good environmental status of the marine environment. They are established by the Directive in its Annex I. The marine assessment areas are located within the Marine Reporting Units (MRUs) defined in the framework of the Marine Strategies of Spain.
