US Northeast Electric Circuits contains the raw circuit-level data as downloaded from the public utility hosting capacity maps. The dataset includes polyline geometries representing medium-voltage electric distribution circuits across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New York, Rhode Island, and Vermont. These states encompass a mix of urban, suburban, and rural settings, offering a diverse testbed for analyzing the relationship between grid structure and socioeconomic conditions. Hosting Capacity Maps are public, utility-maintained GIS layers that summarize circuit attributes and estimate the additional distributed energy resource (DER) capacity that a feeder segment can accommodate under normal operating conditions without requiring distribution upgrades. These maps provide polyline geometries for electric feeders and circuits, along with tabular attributes describing electrical and spatial properties. The repository includes both ESRI Shapefile and GeoJSON formats for compatibility with different GIS and analytical platforms. Each .shp file is accompanied by its required companion files for correct GIS operation: .shx (spatial index), .dbf (attribute table), .prj (projection information), and .cpg (character encoding).
