Citric acid is industrially produced by the fungi belonging to Aspergillus Section Nigri. For the production, the cultivation processes were classified into two types: submerged and solid-state cultivations. We previously reported the draft genome sequence of Aspergillus tubingensis WU-2223L, a citric acid hyperproducer for submerged culture. Moreover, we recently isolated Aspergillus lacticoffeatus (A. niger) WU-2020 (NBRC 115414) as a new citric acid-hyperproducing strain suitable for solid-state cultivation. In this study, we present a draft genome sequence of Aspergillus lacticoffeatus WU-2020 to understand the machineries contributing to citric acid hyperproduction on solid-state culture.
