Germany: Container port throughput 2006-2021

In the five years before the start of the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, container port traffic in Germany was relatively stable, remaining in the range between 15 and 16 million TEUs handled at German ports. With trade affected by the COVID-19 pandemic, container traffic fell by eight percent compared to 2019. This is still a significantly smaller decrease than was experienced during the financial crisis in the 2000s, when the number of containers handled at German ports dropped by nearly a quarter between 2008 and 2009.
