WMID-73E1F1 - Medieval Key (locking)

An almost complete copper alloy rotary key of probable Medieval date (AD 1150 to AD 1400). The key can be described in several sections: The bow or handle, stem and bit. The bow is flat and lozengiform, with an incomplete tubular projection (perhaps a suspension loop) at one corner, on the outside edge. Four rectangular perforations (holes) are present in the bow, positioned centrally around a central square perforation. The stem is attached to the bow at another corner. A worn rectangular triple moulding or collar is present at the junction between stem and bow. The stem is circular in cross-section and hollow.
