This series is the copy of returns submitted to the Superannuation Board recording railway employees who had deceased within 6 months of retirement.The Railway Service Superannuation Act 1910 (Act No.11, 1910) section 14 and the Government Railways Act 1912 (Act No. 30, 1912) section 121 states that 'If an officer retires upon a superannuation allowance and dies within six months after such retirement, his representatives may receive a sum which is equal to the difference between the actual amount of superannuation allowance received by him and the total deductions made; under this Act in respect of his salary and emoluments'.The volumes contain the following templated headings: Name, Position, Branch, Date of retirement, Date of Decease, Gross Pension per Annum, Abatement per Annum, Net pension per Annum, Contributions to the railways superannuation Account. The last column states - Amount of pensions due from date of retirement to date of death (both dates inclusive) this last column changes to - Amount due under section 121, Government Railways Act 1912 (Act No. 30, 1912). The date that this information was submitted to the Board meeting along with the chairman and secretary's signitures are also recorded.Custody HistoryFrom 1955 until 2000 the State Rail Authority of New South Wales maintained an in house archive consisting of the archival records of the Authority, its predecessor agencies and the private railway companies taken over by the government. The date ranges of the records were from 1849 until 2000.When the decision was made to close the State Rail Archives the parts of the collection that were required as State archives were transferred to the State Records Authority of NSW. Those record series were incorporated into the State Records series system of archives control and were re-numbered.This series was formerly part of the State Rail Archives collection where it was identified as series R351. It may have been viewed in the State Rail Archives as series R351 and could have been previously cited as such in notes by researchers at State Rail Archives or in publications or unpublished works.
