Endophytic fungal community in grapevine trunks of differently pruned vines

It was the aim of this study to compare the endophytic fungal community in grapevine trunks under different pruning intensities (minimal and intensive) with special emphasis on fungi associated with grapevine trunk disease (GTD). Two German vineyards (cv. Dornfelder and Mueller-Thurgau) partially trained in vertical shoot position (intensive pruning) and semi minimal pruned hedge (minimal pruning) were chosen to collect wood samples from the trunk. The obtained results may help better understand in which way the pruning intensity shapes the fungal community in the grapevine trunk and the abundance of GTD associated fungi.
