Targeted long read sequencing of cell surface receptors

We report the sequencing of full-length transcripts to catalog isoform diversity of select cell surface receptor encoding genes. We targeted 30 genes to sequence their cDNA during mouse retinal development and from the adult cortex using the PacBio platform. Our results indicate that great isoform diversity exists for many genes that encode cell surface receptors that are expressed in the nervous system. Much of this diversity is predicted to alter protein coding regions suggesting important implications for protein function. Also, the majority of this diversity sequenced is not found in reference annotations suggesting that long read sequencing could potentially benefit a number of transcritpome studies and down stream analyses.
