Frass_time

Fungal ITS and bacterial 16S profiles of frass collected in the Animal Rearing and Containment Unit, Icipe, Kenia, in 2022. The frass was produced from the larvae of the African fruit beetle (Pachnoda sinuata) feeding on cattle manure for a period of 28 d. The experiment was performed in four independent biological replicates. For community profiling, the total DNA was extracted from the frass samples collected from the independent biological replicates after 7 d, 14 d, 21 d, 28 d and at the beginning of the experiment (t0). From the same DNA extract both the fungal ITS2 region and V4 region were sequenced by Illumina Miseq sequencing. Files with 16S and ITS extension contain bacterial and fungal sequences, respectively. Independent samples = separate files (R1, R2) were collected from the different independent biological replicates. Main project questions were the microbiome turn-over of the cattle dung during insect feeding.
