Northern Vancouver Island Archaeology and Palaeoecology Project

NVIAPP attempts to understand the early archaeology and palaeoecology of northern Vancouver Island, British Columbia, Canada. Our work focuses on the late Pleistocene and the Pleistocene-Holocene transition, searching for archaeological sites that represent the earliest occupation of the northwest coast of North America. In order to do so, it is important to understand the environmental context in which these people would have lived. We draw on many palaeoecological proxies, including ancient DNA analysis of bones and sediment, to answer these questions.
