Microbial Bioremediation at Oil and Gas sites in Nova Scotia Laurentian sub-basin, Atlantic Ocean

Seabed hydrocarbon seeps are rich in methane and other alkanes that can originate from subsurface petroleum deposits. The diversity and prevalence of specific hydrocarbon-oxidizing microorganisms inhabiting seep sediments can be indicative biomarkers for the presence of hydrocarbons. Here we studied the geochemistry and microbial diversity of sediments from potential oil and gas seeps and established microcosms from sediments at specific depths and also taken directly from the seabed.
