Share of individuals resorting to hospital services in Italy 2007-2019

The share of individuals resorting to hospital services in Italy fluctuated considerably between 2007 and 2019. In 2018, more than 38 percent of the respondents to a survey reported having resorted to hospital services during the year preceding the interview, the highest value in the period under consideration. In 2019, 23.2 percent of respondents received care in hospitals for a minor health problem and 5.7 percent of them were hospitalized and/or underwent surgery for a major disease.
