Phytosociological relevés for high-resolution vegetation maps of Toolik-Lake area as baseline for future monitoring and multi-disciplinary studies

The dataset is made by 349 phytosociological relevés carried out in the field using a standard plot of 1x1 m in Toolik Lake area (Alaska, USA) during summer 2024. For each relevées (column) are reported: i) stationary data, such as location (SR: NAD83 / UTM zone 6N; EPSG: 26906), elevation, aspect; ii) maximum height (cm) of shrubs layer and of three target species (Betula nana, Salix pulchra, Vaccinium uliginosum); iii) coverage (%) of vascular, moss and lichen layers iv) data of the 53 most frequent plant Taxa For each Taxa were also reported the growth form and the Plant Functiona Type (Yang et al 2021) Description: Variables• Y_NAD83_6N: Y coord, according to SR: NAD83 / UTM zone 6N (EPSG: 26906)• X_NAD83_6N: X coord, according to SR: NAD83 / UTM zone 6N (EPSG: 26906)• Elevation (m asl): elevation in meter above sea level• Aspect (°N): aspect, in degree North• Year: year when the relevé was performed• ShrubLayer_Hmax (cm): maximum height of all the shrub layer• Bet.nan_Hmax (cm): maximum height of Betula nana• Sal.pulcr_Hmax (cm): maximum height of Salix pulchra• Vac.uli_Hmax (cm): maximum height of Vaccinium uliginosum• TotCov (%): total vegetation cover, on the 1x1 m plot area• VascCov (%): cover of vascular species, on the 1x1 m plot area• MossCov (%): cover of moss species, on the 1x1 m plot area• LichCov (%): cover of lichen species, on the 1x1 m plot area• GF: growth form (v = vascular, m = moss, l = lichen)• PFT: Plant Functional Type (modified from Yang et al 2021): DTS* (Deciduous tall shrubs) = Deciduous erect shrub with potential maximum height >200 cm; DLS (Deciduous low shrubs) = Deciduous erect woody shrub 40–200 cm tall; DDS (Deciduous dwarf shrubs) = Deciduous woody shrub below 40 cm tall; ES (Evergreen shrubs) = Non-deciduous erect/prostrate dwarf woody shrub below 40 cm tall; GR (Graminoids) = Tussock/non-tussock narrow-leaf herbaceous vascular plant (grasses, sedges, rushes); BR (Bryophytes) = Cryptogamic nonvascular plant that occurs in mesic to wet sites (all bryophytes including mosses and liverworts); LI (Lichens) = Cryptogamic plant-like organism that occurs in dry sites (comprised of fungi + algae or cyanobacteria); F**(Forbs) = broad-leaf herbaceous vascular plant (not grasses, sedges, rushes) . * = the species belongs to DTS class in Yang et al (2021), but with height below 200 cm; ** = class not included in Yang et al (2021).
