The Alan John (Jock) Marshall Guide to Records documents and contextualises the records of Alan John Marshall, founding Professor of Zoology and Comparative Physiology and Dean of Science at Monash University 1960-1967. The Guide describes the collection, comprising of 10000 inventory items, mostly paper format files. The records are grouped into 25 series and cover Marshall's career in zoology. This includes correspondence, manuscripts, publications, diaries, artefacts and newspaper clippings. The total collection occupies 949 linear cm of shelf space (or its equivalent).
The Guide is the output of a research database. It was originally published online by the Australian Science Archives Project in the late 1990s. An updated version of the Guide was published online by the Australian Science and Technology Heritage Centre in May 2004.
The records were transferred to the National Library of Australia (MS 7132). The collection was listed by Gavan McCarthy, Oscar Manhal, Bill King, Leigh Swancott, Mark Scillio and Rosanne Walker.
