New Approaches to Continuing Professional Development in Libraries

Continuing professional development programs can be difficult to implement in libraries due to time constraints, cost, and the challenges associated with generating content that can best benefit different levels of learners. At the same time, it is important that ongoing professional development opportunities are available for all library staff (“LS”) in order to best serve the needs of the community and strengthen staff-wide expertise. In order to enhance professional expertise of LS and expand their understanding of current and emerging trends in the field, we designed a low cost multimodal program using various flexible learning methods. A secondary aim for this program was to improve interdepartmental communication and team building.
