Geolocated Food Establishments Galicia REGASA 2025

Overview EstablecimientosAlimentos is a geospatial dataset containing the location and classification of food-related establishments across the region of Galicia (Northwest Spain). The dataset includes shops, supermarkets, bakeries, restaurants, and other food retail or service activities. All data are provided in GeoJSON format, using the ETRS89 / UTM Zone 29N (EPSG:25829) coordinate reference system. The original data source is REGASA-Rexistro Establecementos Sanitarios Galicia. The information from this database was Geolocated and the current status of each establishment (open/closed) was reviewed by using GoogleMaps This dataset is designed for use in GIS applications, spatial analysis, market accessibility research, food system studies, and municipal or regional planning. Data Structure The file contains a single FeatureCollection composed of Point geometries. Each feature includes both spatial coordinates and descriptive attributes. Attributes fid — Internal unique identifier Nombre — Establishment name Número de registro — Official registration code Actividad — Type of activity or food-related service Dirección — Full postal address Lat, Lon — Geographic coordinates in WGS84 Fuente, Fuente2 — Sources used for geolocation Ayuntamiento — Local authority (city) CONCELLO — Municipality name Cat_Actividad — Activity category (e.g., fresh food, supermarket, restaurant) Geometry Geometry type: Point Projection: ETRS89 / UTM 29N (EPSG:25829) Notes: Latitude/longitude values (WGS84) are included separately for convenience. Purpose and Intended Use This dataset supports: Spatial modelling of food accessibility Retail and commerce studies Analysis of food networks and supply chains Urban and rural planning Public administration, health and safety supervision Academic, open-data, and applied research It is suitable for use in QGIS, ArcGIS, PostGIS, GeoPandas, MapLibre, and other GIS or spatial data tools. Methodology The dataset was compiled from publicly accessible registry information and geocoded using online geolocation services. Locations were validated through cross-checking with multiple sources. Data cleaning and processing were performed programmatically to ensure consistency of attribute fields and spatial accuracy.
