Attilio Cabiati e Maffeo Pantaleoni: due economisti italiani di fronte alla “Grande guerra”

Attilio Cabiati and Maffeo Pantaloni personify two peculiar examples of how WWI influenced the theoretical and political positions of Italian economists. Cabiati and Pantaleoni, starting from very close positions before the 1914, quickly developed utterly opposite points of view about the role of the State. While the former approved as inevitable the State’s intervention in economic life, the latter strongly reaffirmed the orthodox assumption about the intrinsic inefficiency of all non-market oriented policy.
