资源简介:
This project contains qualitative data from seven focus groups with 29 Hispanic and Latino workers in Wichita and Garden City, Kansas. These communities experience frequent extreme weather and have large bilingual populations. The focus groups explore how multilingual workers understand and respond to workplace risks during extreme weather events. The discussions document workers’ experiences with limited access to hazard information in their dominant language, unclear or inconsistent workplace emergency preparedness practices, and workplace power dynamics that can discourage protective action. Participants also shared ideas for improving workplace safety during hazardous weather, including stronger preparedness planning, more consistent multilingual communication, and better infrastructure. This dataset can support research on extreme weather risk communication, occupational safety, social vulnerability, and disaster preparedness. It may also be useful for policymakers, emergency managers, and community organizations working to improve workplace safety and hazard communication for multilingual communities.
