We hypothesized that Enterococcus faecalis quickly adapts to a chronic inflammatory environment by altering its gene expression profile. These adaptation mechanisms are likely responsible for the persistence and virulence of these bacteria in a susceptible host. To asses Enterococcus faecalis disease-associated transcriptome, we monoassociated mice with Enterococcus faecalis OG1RF for 16 weeks and performed RNA sequencing of bacteria isolated from luminal colon content of healthy wild type and inflamed IL-10-/- mice (n=8/group).
