Current challenges in teaching HAIs-PC in nursing education in Vietnam and Cambodia: a qualitative study

There seems to be a lack of understanding about the factors that impede nursing students from learning how to prevent and control healthcare associated infections in developing countries. To address this issue, a study was conducted to explore the current challenges in healthcare associated infection control and prevention education in nursing curriculums at two Vietnamese and two Cambodian universities. The study employed an exploratory approach by consulting education programs, and a qualitative design through interviews and focus group discussions involving leaders, nursing faculty teachers, and clinical tutors. The study found that implementing healthcare associated infections prevention and control education into nursing curriculums, positive aspects that foster healthcare associated infections prevention and control learning, and negative aspects that hinder healthcare associated infections prevention and control learning were the main themes identified.
