资源简介:
This BioProject is part of the National Iraqi Date Palm Whole Genome Project, conducted through a scientific collaboration between the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture (Department of Research and Studies) and Wahj Al-DNA for Training, Rehabilitation and Services. The project aims to generate high-quality whole genome sequencing data for indigenous Iraqi date palm (Phoenix dactylifera L.) cultivars in order to establish authenticated genomic references, protect national genetic resources, and support future molecular, regulatory, and agricultural applications. In this phase of the project, genomic DNA extracted from leaf tissue of the Barhi cultivar was subjected to whole genome shotgun sequencing using Illumina paired-end technology. Sequencing, data quality control, preparation, bioinformatics analysis, and public data submission were carried out by Wahj Al-DNA for Training, Rehabilitation and Services. The resulting genomic data will serve as a foundational reference for cultivar authentication, molecular marker discovery, primer and probe design, and the development of a national certification system for Iraqi date palm germplasm. This effort represents a strategic step toward safeguarding Iraq's agricultural genetic heritage and supporting sustainable economic development related to date palm production. The project was implemented through close institutional collaboration between the Iraqi Ministry of Agriculture and Wahj Al-DNA. Key scientific and technical contributions from the Ministry of Agriculture were provided by Hadi Hashim Hussein (Horticultural Office) and Dr. Hatem Kareem Abbas (Agricultural Research Department). Project coordination, sequencing management, bioinformatics analysis, and data submission were led by Dr. Najwa Shihab Ahmed and Mahmood Al-Mualm on behalf of Wahj Al-DNA.
