A putative new Campylobacter species pathogen in human close to Campylobacter lanienae: two French independent cases.

The present study describes one putative novel species received at the French National Reference Centre for Campylobacters and Helicobacters by two independent laboratories and isolated from a men and a women suffering from a gastroenteritis. Biochemical, growth characteristics and electron microscopy for these three strains orientated the identification towards a Campylobacter. 16rDNA and GyrA based phylogeny built with 899 amino-acids placed both strains close to Campylobacter lanianae. Average Nucleotide Identity and in silico DNA-DNA hybridization analyses revealed that both strains belong to a previously described C. lanianae clade 3 that may belong to a distinct new species.
