Population genomics and evidence of clonal replacement of P. falciparum in the Peruvian Amazon

We explored the genomic profile of 18 P. falciparum samples from the Peruvian Amazon and 6 from the Peruvian North Coast. Our results, showed 3 populations that matched previously typed lineages in Peru and a potential expansion of one of these lines in the Amazon Basin. This replacement could be a result of the high prevalence of CQ resistance polymorphisms in this line which could have provided a selective advantage.
