This study combined role strategies with time-frames, designed role strategies under multiple time-frames, and conducted a two-week asynchronous online role-based discussion with 117 third-year undergraduate students in two classes to explore the effectiveness of adopting this strategy in AOD. The results showed that setting multiple time-frames in AOD and clearly assigning roles and responsibilities within the different time-frames can effectively improve students’ participation and interaction in discussions and their learning satisfaction, which leads to certain benefits for learning results.
