The ULX XMMU J122939.7+075333 in the globular cluster RZ 2109 in the Virgogalaxy NGC 4472 displays recurrent soft X-ray flares resembling QPEs ingalactic nuclei. Its optical emission is characterized by a bright and broademission line which is variable on long timescales. The first simultaneousX-ray and optical spectroscopic observation of this peculiar object will explorethe possible relation between the optical line variability and the X-ray flaringactivity.
