Medicine Hat Glauconitic C (MHGC) field Metagenome

This experiment investigated the microbial communities present in produced water from the Medicine Hat Glauconitic C (MHGC) field, a shallow (850 m below surface), conventional oil reservoir producing heavy oil through produced water reinjection. In addition, this site has been injected with nitrate since early 2007 to control for souring (sulfide formation by sulfate-reducing bacteria), and consequently is a unique habitat for microorganisms that is distinct and more diverse than found in other hydrocarbon resource environments.
