资源简介:
Frederick Lee Berney (1865-1949) was a notable Australian ornithologist. He was a member of the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union (RAOU) from its inception in 1901 and served as its president from 1933-34. He also contributed to its journal, The Emu (his publications include an article he sent from Palestine during World War I – see link below).
Berney worked as a pastoralist for much of his life, managing and then owning property in Queensland. He had a particular fondness for the Bustard and fought hard to protect it from hunting by other landowners. His efforts contributed to the Bustard’s total protected status in every state of Australia.
Berney kept a record of his bird observations from 1898 to 1946. These “Nature Diaries” (17 in total) are now held in Museum Victoria’s Scientific Art and Observation Collection . This is Berney's diary from 1917.
