The vaginal microbiome plays a critical role in determining the progression of female genital tract infections. The vaginal microbiota is dominated by lactobacilli which help in maintaining a healthy vaginal microenvironment and protecting the host from urogenital infections. However little is known about the vaginal microbiota of Indian women. Here we report the whole genome sequences of vaginal lactobacilli from Indian women of reproductive age. The genome would provide knowledge of the genomic content and the functional insights about fundamental and essential cellular processes of the Lactobacillus genus
